QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ISO 9001:2015 CERTIFIED

ISO 9001 is a world recognized quality management standard that helps organizations to meet the expectations and needs of their customers. Achieving this level of certification demonstrates the Kenya Power Pension Fund’s ability and desire to effectively and efficiently implement and maintain a quality management system (QMS) while continually improving internal processes and services to members. At the heart of our QMS is the Quality Policy statement which underscores our firm commitment to realize our vision, and quality objectives which we have set our eyes on.

Our Quality Policy Statement

Quality is something our organization strives for and it validates the pledge to providing high-quality and consistent services, which at times is often difficult to achieve. Questions concerning efficiency and quality present themselves in our daily business processes. Our quality management system provides answers to address most of them if not all, as we endeavor to provide quality services that meet and exceed expectations.

Looking back on the journey to certification, a decision was made in April 2013 to set in motion the process of ISO certification of the Fund. There was the desire to enhance satisfaction of members and improve efficiency in our processes. Policies existed but they were not sufficient to meet our desire to satisfy our customers. The Fund instituted various activities among them consultancy, staff training, documentation of the QMS manuals and procedures by a select team of ISO champions, and internal reviews which culminated into the award of the prestigious ISO 9001: 2008 certification for the Fund in April 2014. The Fund’s QMS has continuously been assessed by SGS (K) Ltd for conformity and compliance within the validity period of the certificate up to April 2017.

In late 2015, a new revision to the standard, ISO 9001:2015 was published and available for organizations to certify for. The Fund proactively embarked on an exercise to adopt its QMS to the new standard requirements. A review process to ensure conformity to the requirements of the new standard led to the award of certification on the 22nd May 2017, where Kenya Power Pension Fund became the first occupational Pension Fund to be ISO 90001:2015 certified and followed by a celebration breakfast gala graced by our stakeholders including the Fund’s sponsor – Kenya Power, RBA the industry regulator, our suppliers and service providers, SGS (K) Ltd – the certification body and members of the Fund.

The Fund takes pride in the achievement of this great milestone, under the direction of the CEO and Trust Secretary, support and participation of top management and staff at the Fund, not forgetting the critical role played by the team of ISO champions. These efforts have significantly resulted in better internal processes, stakeholder engagements, enhanced customer service and satisfaction and the introduction of risk management.
