Medical expenses have been identified as one of the most significant expenses that individuals face in retirement. In the absence of adequate preparation, medical expenses can have adverse on an individual’s quality of life in retirement. It is with this premise and in a bid to ensure continuity of the retirees’ medical schemes, that the Fund sought to introduce the Enhanced (Retiree) Medical Scheme. This is an arrangement where the Fund negotiates with different medical insurance firms to provide medical covers for retirees. The Board of Trustees approved payment of premiums in advance to these insurance firms and recover the premiums in equal monthly installments from a retiree’s pension. The Enhanced (Retiree) Medical Scheme is open to all retired KPLC employees.
