Fund Advances Environmental Conservation through Forest Rehabilitation Project.
The Fund continues to make significant strides in its commitment to environmental sustainability through impactful CSR initiatives. This year, in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kimakia Community Forest Association (CFA), the Fund launched a Forest Rehabilitation project at Kimakia Forest in Murang’a County. The objective of the initiative was to restore deforested areas by planting 5,000 indigenous trees, which will enhance the region’s green cover and promote biodiversity.
This project not only addresses critical environmental challenges but also actively engaged the local community. Over 80 community members participated in site preparation, tree planting, and the long-term care of the trees. This collaborative approach fostered a strong sense of ownership and responsibility, ensuring the sustainability of the initiative for years to come.
Kimakia Forest, a vital ecosystem in the Central Region, plays an essential role in climate resilience and water conservation. The newly planted trees will help increase carbon absorption, protect water catchment areas, and stabilize soil. These benefits will also directly support local farmers and residents by enhancing water availability and soil health, which are crucial for sustainable livelihoods.
To ensure the success and longevity of the project, KFS and CFA will continue to monitor the growth of the trees, providing necessary support for their survival. This long-term collaboration aims to cultivate a thriving forest that not only bolsters the environmental resilience of the region but also supports local biodiversity and contributes to climate change mitigation.
Through strategic partnerships and active community involvement, this initiative exemplifies the Fund’s unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. It reflects the Fund’s ongoing efforts to address climate change, promote a greener future, and create lasting positive impacts on both the environment and local communities.
