The Fund Strengthens Environmental Stewardship Through Continued Forest Rehabilitation at Kimakia Forest
On 21st November 2025, the Fund took another deliberate step in advancing its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments by returning to Kimakia Forest in Murang’a County for a tree maintenance exercise under its ongoing Forest Rehabilitation Project.
The activity focused on nurturing young trees planted in previous phases of the project through weeding, replacement of damaged seedlings, and measures to maintain a healthy and balanced ecosystem. These interventions are critical in improving tree survival rates, enhancing natural regeneration, and ensuring long-term environmental resilience, key pillars of the Fund’s environmental responsibility agenda.
Kimakia Forest plays an important role in supporting biodiversity, protecting vital water catchment areas, and contributing to climate change mitigation. Through consistent rehabilitation efforts, the Fund is contributing to the restoration of degraded forest land, improved soil health, and the preservation of wildlife habitats, while aligning with national environmental priorities and global sustainability frameworks.
Beyond environmental impact, the initiative also reflects the Fund’s social responsibility, recognising the importance of healthy ecosystems to surrounding communities whose livelihoods and wellbeing are closely linked to natural resources. By investing in sustainable environmental practices, the Fund supports long-term community resilience and intergenerational equity.
From a governance perspective, the Forest Rehabilitation Project demonstrates the Fund’s commitment to responsible stewardship, accountability, and long-term value creation for its members. The focus on continuity, impact measurement, and sustained engagement underscores a governance approach that integrates sustainability into decision-making.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, the Fund continues to embed ESG principles into its operations, protecting natural resources today while safeguarding a sustainable future for current and future generations.
